Belgium: New 2-child family policy

Belgium: New 2-Child Family Policy Starts on the 1st of January 2019 – One Father Fights Back

The Belgian social system puts most of its citizens in a situation of need for social welfare. One of its pillars, is the dependency of families to ‘Child Benefit’ (‘Kindergeld’), subsidized by taxes. A major shift in the new system, starting in January 2019, results in considerable financial loss for families with more than 2 children. That is why a father is taking his case to the Constitutional Court. His first two children were born under the old system, favoring families with more than 2 children, but the couple would like to have 2 more children, who would be born under the new rules. The result is a net loss of 60.000€, an important amount for middle and low earners. Will the Court accept this as discrimination? If such a family would have 6 or 8 children, the amount would surpass 100.000€! Is Belgium getting closer to a 1-child policy?
